Small Charities Unlimited has an interesting history.  Barbara supported MANY, many causes from animals to Opera and from Indian Children to The Salvation Army. Most of these large charities would have continued to receive donations IF, as assumed, I would have passed away first. Unfortunately Barbara passed away first and I decided to use the charity money in a different way.

I really like the Salvation Army but decided NOT to donate the charity money to ANY LARGE organization. A large donation would have just been a “blip” to them and would’ve resulted in more mail asking for $$ over and over. I have always supported “Lifesavers”, a wild horse Rescue charity and that’s how this started. I called Jill and asked her what their biggest donation had been from a LIVING person. Their largest had been $25,000 and I asked  what they would do with $50,000… It would have been a “newer” flatbed truck to replace the VERY tired 2017 truck that they had. Instead; I gave them $80,000 for a brand new one with the special bed (Photo of truck with dedication to Barbara). That was the START of SCU.

SCU funds ONLY small worthy charities where the donation makes a BIG difference to them. This venture started in early 2024 and the charities are varied. SCU does NOT contribute to normal expenses: we pay for “things” like trucks, tractors, building murals, barns, scholarships, small buildings, fencing etc. In every case we have the charity place the following tribute to Barbara. “Donated in memory of Barbara C. Rosenthal 1944-2023”. This is really a simple satisfying project…. “help good people with good causes and keep Barbara’s name and memory visible FAR into the future”
